Morocco To Build The World's Largest Solar Power Plant


February 6, according to TheVerge website reported, Morocco on the edge of the Sahara desert town Ourrzazate established a huge solar power system plant. The plant cover thousands of acres, can produce up to 160 megawatts power, it has already been one of the world's largest solar power grid, from the sky will be able to see and the plant will only become more and more large.
The named for the grid of Noor I is a project of the first phase , the project objective is to live in Morocco and millions of people to provide renewable energy. Soon will expand to Noor II and Noor III, and add more mirror in the existing power plants. Once the project is completed in 2018, the grid will cover 6000 acres, at that time will produce up to 580 MW power which can comparable with that of a small nuclear reactor.
At present, the entire solar farm is made up of 500000 pieces of curved surface mirrors, each mirror is about 40 feet high. These mirrors gathered sunlight to a fluid filled pipe, and the liquid is heated to 739 degrees Fahrenheit (393 degrees Celsius). The liquid is used for heating a near headwater, which into steam to drive a turbine to rotate to generate energy. In Morocco every year has about 3000 hours sunshine, so there is a lot of solar energy can be used. But the plant can also be generated electricity at night, "liquid heat can be stored in a box filled with molten salt water tank." NASA wrote.
According to the guardian said, the current Noor I can from dawn to before sunset about three hours for 650, 000 local residents provide solar power. After completion of the power plant a day can provide 20 hours electricity. According to CNN reports, Morocco to build a world's largest concentrated on and off grid solar power system plant, the power plant is located in the Moroccan desert town --- Ouarzazate , this town is famous for taking over several Hollywood movies (including "Lawrence of Arabia" "Gladiator", etc.), by 2018, the power plant will provide the energy needed annually to more than one million households - according to the "climate investment funds" (climate investment Funds) data estimation, which is equivalent to an annual reducing 760,000 tons of carbon gas emissions.


On February 4, 2016, with Moroccan King Mohammed VI pressed the button, the first part of the third phase of the project officially put into use.



This called Noor complex solar energy projects, the use concentrated solar panels are much expensive than the widely used photovoltaic panels, but unlike the latter, whether in the night or cloudy days, the panels also can store energy.

Prior to this, 97 % of Morocco's energy all depend on oil imports, so this country eager to diversify energy sources and begin to use renewable energy. Morocco will host the United Nations Climate Change Conference in November 2016, this goal is to be one of the reasons the Moroccan organizers.

 "Africa, especially southern Africa, in the development of solar energy has great potential. Morocco in the region's leading investment may provide a template for other countries, other countries in the development of energy industry may also seek a sustainable way".


 According to CIF data, in addition to reducing carbon emissions and the degree of dependence on oil imports, the project will also be in the total power generation in Morocco, the proportion of renewable energy will promote from 13% to 42%.


 Similarly, this project can improve the living standards of the surrounding area, recent Ouarzazate distance power station 10km, resident population reached 58 million, and poverty rate is as high as 23%. This solar power station will at least thoroughly solve the illumination problem for residents living , and hospital equipment sometimes because of lack of electricity and the short circuit problem.
